Road Trip - June 9th

After reading through the comments, we're pretty split on what date is better.  However, I agree with Sam.  We've talked for a while now about going down to Karen's (Shelly) side of town and I think it's only fair that we go when she can attend. So...June 9th is our road trip!  I can drive my van and can fit 6 people easily (7 if we put 3 people in the rear seat).  We'll need to decide on a meeting place.  We can't park at the community center since someone is using it that day and will need the parking spots.  So, I guess we could meet at the neighborhood Walmart parking lot?  Any other parking suggestions?
No birthday exchange, we will celebrate by eating lunch together and SHOPPING!!

June 16th - I still have the room reserved so I plan on being there about 9:30.  All are welcome to come and sew.

March 2013 retreat - Sounds like the last weekend is preferred but that is Easter weekend.  We would be leaving Margie's on Easter, is that really OK with everyone?

Quilt for the quilt show - I believe Clyde bought the kona snow fabric and we'll each receive our portion on our road trip June 9th. Clyde will let me know the total cost of the Kona, so please plan on reimbursing her.  I doubt it will be more than $5 each. To answer Carolina's question - Yes, we are going scrappy...maybe "controlled scrappy" is a better term?  If everyone makes 4 blocks, we'll have more than we need to complete the quilt and we will be able to include the blocks that go well together.  I'm sure it will be fine if we just avoid the fabrics I mentioned in the earlier post...batiks, flannels, plaids, conversation prints etc.  I will bring some scraps that I have and plan to work on my blocks at the next few bee meetings. We've been asking for your scraps and already have quite a big bag (thanks to Carolina!).  We can discuss more on the Road trip when we receive our Kona snow fabric.

I'm all for doing a quilt for QOV.  Why don't we make a few of these granny square blocks first and decide if we want to make those same blocks or try another block for our QOV quilt.
I think I covered everything...please chime in  :-)

  1. My office is at 1660 Townhurst, Houston, TX 77043 just north of Hobby Lobby at I-10 and just East of Beltway 8 (close to the DPS Office), There is plenty of parking free on Saturday as most of these offices are closed then.

Just thought I would throw that out there.

  2. I will go with majority on the weekend of the retreat. But, would prefer not Easter weekend. If the retreat is Easter weekend, I will probably have to leave on Saturday night.

  3. I would prefer not to be at a retreat on Easter. I would rather use one of the other weekends. Also I am planning on working on my quilt show blocks on the June 16th meeting. I probably won't be driving the little green machine on the road trip. Amy,I claim shotgun! I think I'll be tired of driving when I get back. It's so dry here in Cortez! Imagine 6% humidity!!!!!! I don't think we've had such a low % in Houston ever. :) Went to a Quilt Shop today!! And plan on another one tomorrow.

  4. Here goes, hope I remember everything.

I plan on going on the road trip; however, I would prefer not to drive and to meet some place in the Bear Creek area, picking up Carolina on our way. I seem to recall meeting at the HEB on Hwy 6 in the past for one of our road trips. I think that is convenient for most of us. Just name the time to meet.

Probably on having the retreat on Easter weekend would be best. But I am open for any of the listed weekends.

I plan on coming to the bee meeting on the 16th and have my material for the blocks, so I will probably be working on them there.

Hope I hit on all current topics.
