WARNING - THIS IS A LONG POST!
Make sure you have time to sit and read all the way through. We have decisions to make and I'd like to hear from all of you.
Decision #1)
The meeting room is not available to us on the Second Saturday, however we do have the room reserved for the follwing week, June 16th. In the past, the June meeting has been our "birthday party" meeting. I thought it might be fun to do a road trip since we've talked about going out Karen's (Shelly) way. I created the following map that shows a route that would get us to Painted Pony, then to Lunch in Kemah, then we could hit Sew Contempo on the way back if time and budgets permit. This is all just a suggestion. I checked into the other 2 shops in the area; Pinwheels and Posies and Cactus Quilts, they are 30 minutes further away in opposite directions but we could squeeze one in and skip Sew Contempo. Also, what if anything do we want to do for birthdays, I don't recall doing gift exchanges?Please chime in and let us hear your thoughts, just click on the comments link below this post.
- Do we do our road trip on our usual 2nd Saturday (June 9th) and still meet in the community room on June 16th?
- Do the road trip on the 16th and cancel the meeting room?
- Gift exchange?
Decision #2)
We need to book our retreat for March 2013. I contacted Margie at Retreats by Margie and the following dates are available:* 14th to 17th
* 21st to 24th
* 28th to 31st
Please let me know if you plan on attending and your date preference by indicating your first, second and third choice. Please respond by May 31st so I can send her a check to reserve our spot.
#3 Decision has been made...
Our Quilt Show Contribution. We discussed at the May meeting our project for the Quilt Show. We will make the quilt a little larger than this one pictured below.The tutorial appears here (Granny Square Quilt tutorial), we will all need to make 4 blocks. They will be due at the October bee meeting. That is only 1 block per month so NO DEADLINE EXTENSIONS! We must stick to this deadline so we have time to set it, quilt and bind it. We all have our own projects we need to get finished for the quilt show; am I right ladies?
Clyde will purchase the required Kona Snow that we will all use for the background. You will get your Kona snow fabric at the June meeting. Each person will get enough 2.5" strips to complete your 4 blocks and extra in case of a mistake (sshhh). Please do not trim your blocks, we will trim them down after we gather all the blocks. Please do NOT use the following fabrics: batiks, flannel, plaids, home spuns, metallics or conversation prints. If you have any questions about a certain fabric and if it can be used in the quilt, please post your questions here so we can all discuss. I think it would be really cute in 30's prints and softer tones...just my opinion however. Here are some other versions I found online that are also nice.
Recap:
1) What is your vote for our June meeting? Road trip? What date?
2) Are you in for Margie's Retreat next March? Please list dates in order of preference.
3) Save your scraps and get started on your Granny Square blocks!
All for now! (Whew...I told you it was a long post!)
TTFN, (Ta Ta For Now)
Amy

I like the idea of a road trip and vote we take the road trip on the third weekend of June, (6/16), because it's payday! And I'll have more to spend. I vote for no gift exchange, but treat ourselves to a wonderful lunch n Kemah instead. I like the layout of the trip. And I've been wanting to check out Sew Contempo and it makes a really smooth route for a road trip.
ReplyDeleteI will be at Margies for the retreat in MArch. Here are my choices:
* 14th to 17th (1)
* 21st to 24th (3)
* 28th to 31st (2)
I'm thinking if we have to but finishing touches on any of our entries for the quilt show we still might have time at the retreat if we go the 14th-17th. I bet they will be collecting entries around the 21st-24. And of course 28-31 is another payday.
And I love our quilt for the quilt show. I have a bunch of stripes I can bring to share. And I don't have to put together another basket this time. :)
Bee Happy,
Sam
#1: Either date is fine with me. Did you know that the 16th is the day before Father's Day and may affect someone? The road trip sounds good.
ReplyDelete#2: I'm open at this time any of the dates are fine. When is spring bread?
#3: The quilt pattern chosen is good. I'll get started at least picking fabrics. Have Clyde let me know how much I owe for the Kona fabric. I assume we'll get it on which ever June date we meet.
Elaine
#1 road trip Second Sat ( I have out of town company next week)
ReplyDelete#2 Mar 21-24 (will be in Dallas first choice and Memorial Day is last choice)
I have no preference for Birthday bash
I will participate in Granny square quilt. Why don't we make another one in RWB for QOV?
CC
My vote is for the road trip on June 16th.
ReplyDeleteKaty ISD's Spring Break (and Texas State's) is the 11th -15th.
My first choice for Margie's would be 21st thru 24th, then 14th thru' 17th and I didn't realize that March 31st is Easter. So that pretty much knocks out that weekend. Should I ask Margie about Feb dates?
Hi<
ReplyDeleteEverone,I guess I missed a lot at the last meeting.I like the quilt that we will be doing for the show. Right now either date in June will work,but things could change so if I can make it I will.I have been wanting to go to sew comtempo,but I will enjoy any of the shops that we go to.
I would prefer 1.March 28-31
2. March 24-27
3. March 14-17 March 14th is my husbands birthday I would have to come the next day
Hello everyone,
ReplyDelete1) I vote road trip on the Jun 9th. I will not be able to go if it is on the 16th (quilt meeting or road trip - it is release weekend at work)
2) Currently, I am good with either the 14-17 or 21-24 dates in march. If March dates are not good, i would suggest April dates instead of Feb (too close to Dec retreat)
3) I like the quilt pattern chosen! I like the suggestion for doing another quilt in RWB for QOV, also.
Karen (Shelly)
1. I vote for June 9th road trip to PP & any other shops with lunch in Kemah (would try to go if 16th is chosen, but not sure because of father‘s day weekend), no gift exchange and no bee meeting that month.
ReplyDelete2. 2013 spring retreat - I would commit to go for either First Choice Mar. 21-24th; Second Choice Mar. 28-31st . I cannot commit to go for Mar. 14-17th due to family commitments.
3. I am bringing WOF strips of Kona Snow for everyone in June (I’ll post the total price on the blog to divide). I like the 1930’s idea, but since it’s coming from our scraps what if we considered different values/shades of primary colors including 1930’s if they are not novelty prints, (i.e., no cats, dogs, scarecrows, etc.) I am okay with a final decision from Amy on the colors after looking at all our suggestions to avoid delaying the project. I like the border on the bottom picture and if we chose that it might be nice if we also gave some extra 2.5” squares from our scraps used for the blocks for that border. Also, if it’s decided to do 4 blocks each in RWB for QOV too, I’m okay with that.
Clyde
I will now try to respond for the 4th time. If I can remember all the questions.
ReplyDeleteRoad trip sounds great n no bee meeting on June.
Meal n time together sounds like a birthday celebration!
And we would each enjoy spending $ at shops as a birthday gift to each other! At least to me.
Any weekend at Margie's is fine with me!
I will be tied up in June so count me out of everything. Regarding the retreat my first choice is March 28th.
ReplyDeleteTracy
After reading all the comments, one thing stands out...Karen Shelly is only available for the road trip on the 2nd Saturday, which is June 9. Since we've been trying to get over to her side of town for so long, I think we need to have our road trip on June 9. And since we have the room we could have a sew in on June 16?
ReplyDeleteBee Happy,
Sam
Good morning.
ReplyDeleteRoad trip AND sewing sound good to me but just roadtrip would be ok too.
First choice March 28-31
Second choice March 14-17
I am fine with the quilt chosen but am confused as to how we can get started as it appears we are not sure if we are doing it TRULY scrappy or have picked brights, or pastelish colors...or am I the one who is confused???
Also, I like the idea of doing a RWB!!
I think that was it.
Have a great holiday weekend!!!!
