Those that were at the last bee meeting discussed the plans for Christmas. Even though we all enjoy the homemade gifts, we decided that this year we would do a gift exchange. We'll draw names and have a $25-$30 spending limit. If you want to be included in the gift exchange you must commit by Sept. 1st. Please make a list of a few items you might like to receive, fabric color ways, name of book, pattern etc. This will help us when we shop at Quilt Festival!
We also discussed doing another exchange. A scrappy quilt. We discussed 2 options:
1) Granny Square quilt - like the one we made for the Quilt Show. We would exchange 2.5" squares and everyone would choose their own background fabric and there would be no set deadline, just encourage each other to finish.
2) I'm not sure what to call this quilt...I thought I heard it called a matchstick quilt? On this one, we would exchange "sets" of 2.5" x 5" rectangles and everyone would add their own 'middle' fabric. Again, no set deadline on this but just encourage each other to finish.
Those of us that participated in the charm square exchanges with the guild, this would be a great way to use them up! After packing up my sewing stuff in preparation for the move, I have NO business buying any more fabric, rulers, patterns, books etc. It was quite a shock to see how much I have and I'm so glad I did it during the day when Mark was at work so he didn't see all of it. Geez! I really should have picked some to sell in the upcoming guild garage sale but I just can't part with any of it - yet! Am I the only one that feels this way?
Ok, let me hear from you:
1) Are you planning on attending bee Saturday May 11th?
2) Are you interested in participating in the fabric exchange and if so what quilt gets your vote

I am planning on attending the bee meeting on 11th. Either one of the scrap quilts would be fine for me although I would like to do the second one and use some of my charm squares.
ReplyDeleteSee you at the meeting. Elaine
I am not sure if I can make it or not being that it is mom day weekend I will have to see what happens I prefer the granny square quilt.

I have 2 family commitments that day - would rather sew though! Hard to choose between the 2 options......maybe the matchstick - I would probably finish that one LOL. I will be at guild meeting next week helping Susan Thomson's mom at her table - see you all there.

I would LOVE to come on Saturday :-) Have many projects I NEED to finish. Will try to arrive about 9:30 if that is not too early. I vote for matchstick exchange.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to those I won't see on Saturday!

I will be there on Saturday! I need a SEWING day!
ReplyDeleteI will participate in the gift exchange in December. I was looking forward to the homespun Christmas again. I have already gotten a couple of ideas which I will save for another time.
I will participate in the exchange also. I prefer the granny quilt like we made for the guild.
